What?
I've just got off live radio on the Carling Cup semis replay between United and Chelsea, and disappointingly, to say the least, the Blues have edged us 2-1. Like I said, I just got off live radio, so I didn't actually watch the match, but it seemed like Tim Howard has let in a freak goal by Damien Duff towards the end of the match when United seemed to be right in it. I'm really tempted to say that Chelsea were just lucky to win on a mistake by Timmy, but if this sort of mistakes happen to United and not to Chelsea, I'm forced to concede that Chelsea do indeed look like the best team in England at the moment. Sometimes you lose because your rival is just way to good (Andre Agassi can elaborate!), but sometimes you lose because you made a mistake or your rivals were half as bad as you were, i.e. in both of these cases they were still better than you. It's certainly the latter case with United tonight. And it proves right to my defiant mind that Chelsea are probably half a step ahead of United at this moment. I'd not want to meet Vivek (my Mauritian classmate and fellow United fan, albeit a very pessimistic one) tomorrow. I've had enough of fan sorrow for tonight and it might last till United win their next couple of games against Boro and of course, Arsenal.
I did actually make an attempt to watch that match at my "lucky" bar, which is about 150 yards away from my flat but they weren't showing it (that was why I had to go back to the radio). In case you were wondering why is it "lucky", it's because up till now, every time I watch United at this particular bar, they've never lost. And tonight I didn't get to watch them there because they weren't showing it, and hence they lost. Yeah well, football lovers and their superstitions. To be honest, Sir Alex was probably thinking about his United team having never lost a domestic cup semi in his 18 years here, but Jose Mourinho seems to be a man who is on his way to breaking all sorts of silly superstitous beliefs and useless statistics. We all know that since the Premiership began, no team had won the league after having topped the table at Christmas. And Chelsea, and their arrogant but supremely effective manager, certainly are looking to break that "curse"! I'm bracing myself for a fair amount of stick tomorrow, no less from Yati, another of my classmates, who told me early on that she wanted Chelsea to win (why do people hate United anyway?!), and tipped the score to be 2-0. She certainly looks closer to her prediction than I am to mine, which is a 1-0 to United. I just did not expect United's defence to cave in twice tonight.
And just what makes Jose Mourinho so good anyway? Did he make an agreement with the Devil himself, or is he just a genius in his field?? But for a wage of around 80000 GBP per week(yes, that's 8, followed by four zeroes, per week), he had better be! Abramovich is proving to the world, to the football world at least, that money can indeed buy everything. We really have to beat Arsenal now and hope Duff's old team Blackburn do us a favour. A HUGE and almost impossible favour...
I'm just gonna call my girlfriend now and talk to her about some other things. She's one of the people I know who's least interested in football and would be the perfect person to get my mind off it, like she does all the time with everything else anyway. 7 is my favourite number, and I really hate to end my seventh posting in this apparent pitiful manner, but...(groan!).
